I would add a USB to MIDI cable - generic types can work -but most are junk Often a Powered USB 2.0 hub works better than a Powered USB 3.0 for sharing Audio and MIDI gear on one Mac USB port. Recent Macbooks work well with Powered USB Hubs, and remember all your devices are USB 2.0, despite there being USB 3.0 ports on your MacBook Pro. The lack of 5 pin MIDI I/O on the Apogee GIO always put that box as a non starter for me.
